World Water Day Special Interview
Ignacio Muñoz de Juan, CEO of Molecor, on Water Sustainability and the Future of Global Water Management
1. Water is often described as the world’s most precious resource. How do you see the global water situation evolving over the coming decades?
Water availability is becoming one of the defining challenges of our century. Population growth, urban expansion, climate variability, and increasing industrial demand are placing unprecedented pressure on water resources. While some regions experience severe shortages, others struggle with inefficient management and infrastructure losses. The future will require a combination of technological innovation, responsible consumption, and long-term planning to ensure that clean water remains accessible for everyone.
2. Are governments and industries doing enough to address water-related challenges today?
There has been significant progress in recent years, particularly in raising awareness and investing in water infrastructure. However, much of the response still occurs after problems become critical. A more preventive approach is needed. Governments, industries, and communities must collaborate to improve water efficiency, modernize distribution networks, and implement sustainable practices before shortages become severe.
3. What role does Molecor play in improving water management worldwide?
At Molecor, our mission is to contribute to the efficient transportation and distribution of water. One of the greatest challenges facing water utilities is the loss of water through aging or inefficient infrastructure. By developing advanced piping solutions that reduce leakage and improve system reliability, we help ensure that more water reaches the people and communities that depend on it.
4. Why is infrastructure such an important part of solving water scarcity issues?
In many regions, water resources exist but are not effectively delivered to consumers. Poor infrastructure can result in significant water losses before it even reaches homes, businesses, or agricultural operations. Modern water networks are essential for maximizing resource efficiency, reducing waste, and ensuring equitable access. Investing in resilient infrastructure is one of the most effective ways to address global water challenges.
5. How does innovation contribute to more sustainable water systems?
Innovation is at the heart of sustainable water management. New materials, smarter monitoring systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies enable the creation of infrastructure that lasts longer, performs better, and requires fewer resources. At Molecor, research and development are fundamental to our strategy because innovation allows us to continuously improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
6. What environmental benefits can advanced piping technologies offer?
Modern piping solutions can significantly reduce water losses, energy consumption, and material usage. Lightweight and durable systems simplify transportation and installation while maintaining long-term performance. Efficient water conveyance also means lower operational costs and reduced carbon emissions throughout the lifecycle of a project, supporting broader sustainability goals.
7. What are Molecor’s priorities for the future?
Our focus remains on developing technologies that make water distribution safer, more efficient, and more accessible. We will continue investing in research, expanding our global reach, and collaborating with partners who share our vision of sustainable water management. The objective is not only to improve infrastructure but also to contribute to a more resilient future for communities worldwide.
8. What message would you like to share on World Water Day?
Water is essential to life, economic development, and environmental well-being. Every individual, business, and institution has a responsibility to protect this resource. Through innovation, cooperation, and commitment, we can build a future where clean and reliable water access is available to all. I remain optimistic because history has shown that when humanity works together, even the greatest challenges can be overcome.
